Being a Good Neighbour

The Association sometimes receives complaints from tenants about their neighbours. We investigate all complaints and try to arrive at a solution that satisfies everyone.

There are a wide range of issues which can be classified as neighbour disputes and anti-social behaviour. These can include activities such as excessive noise, unkempt gardens, vandalism, litter and nuisance pets. More serious forms of behaviour can include racial and other harassment, threatened or actual violence, malicious damage, drug dealing, house breaking and theft.

The Association will only get involved in tenancy related disputes between tenants and their neighbours where other action has failed. Tenants are expected to try to sort out any such problems themselves in a reasonable and friendly manner.

Tenants experiencing nuisance should as a first step talk the matter through with the person causing the problem. They may not know they are causing a nuisance and a compromise might be reached without the need to involve other parties.

HOW CAN THE ASSOCIATION HELP?

If a nuisance continues and the tenant is unable to resolve it amicably, they should contact their Housing Officer for advice. After initial investigation and assessment of the situation, the Association may consider any appropriate action.

The best way to avoid conflict is by being considerate to your neighbours.

For more information please refer to your tenants handbook or contact the Housing Management staff at the office.
